The Charm of Madrid

If you would like to know why Madrid is known as the sleepless city, then you have to visit it. However, before you do that, you should have a fairly good idea of what to expect and the ideal places to visit. Madrid is among the best-known cultural centers of Europe with a great deal of attractions that people from different parts of the world come to enjoy. It is fairly easy to tour these interesting sites, as most of them are found in the heart of the city and its surrounding districts. You will also find some great sites at the city’s outskirts. In the downtown area, you will find what is known as the ‘Golden Triangle of Art’, which is made up of the Prado National Museum, the Reina Sofia Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. The Prado National Museum houses masterpieces of many famous painters, including van Dyck, Breughel, Goya, Rubens, D”rer and Velazquez. At the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, you will find a large collection of sculptures and paintings from different art eras. The Reina Sofia Museum, on the other hand, displays ‘Guernica’, which is a masterpiece of Picasso, among other works of art. The painting is a representation of modern culture, depicting the fate of the residents of Guernica village that suffered from heavy Nazi bomb attacks in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. It is normal to feel some level of exhaustion after your tour of the museums. You do not need to go far to get a place to relax, however. The Retiro Park is nearby, where you can have some special relaxing moments. This is the largest recreational center in the heart of the city. If you want to relax and learn at the same time, then you should head to the Royal Botanical Garden. You will get the chance to see some unique plant species at the botanical garden. You do not need to pay anything to visit the Retiro Park, while adults pay two Euros to enter the Royal Botanical Garden.The downtown area of Madrid has a special appeal too. It is located in the Plaza Mayor, which is the main town square. The stylish cafes will give you the opportunity to enjoy a drink or eat some great Spanish dishes. The seat of the Spanish Royal Family, the Royal Palace, is close to the Plaza Mayor. This is another popular tourist destination. You will get the chance to walk through fifty different rooms. You can also relax at the Campo del Moro, which is a beautiful garden surrounding the palace. Casa de Campo park is the largest park in the city. When you are in the park, you should take some time to visit Madrid’s Zoological Garden where you will see some exotic animal species. The zoo contains such facilities as a dolphinarium, an aviary and an aquarium. A theme park is nearby the zoo, where the whole family can have a lot of fun. When night comes, the city just assumes another face without going to sleep at all. Many people spend time in restaurants, discos and cafes.
